IDO Honored Among Top 3 for Monumental Public Art Award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (October 23, 2025) — The Irvington Development Organization (IDO) has been recognized among the Top 3 recipients of the Monumental Public Art Award, earning two trophies at this year’s Monumental Awards, held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

Presented annually by Citizens Energy Group, the Monumental Awards celebrate individuals, businesses, and organizations that contribute to excellence in architecture, construction, engineering, innovative reuse, interior design, landscape architecture, neighborhood revitalization, public art, and real estate development throughout the Indianapolis region.

“This recognition is about more than just public art—it’s a reflection of who we are,” said Jim Rawlinson, President of the Irvington Development Organization. “Our projects tell the stories of the people and moments that built this neighborhood. Madge’s story reminds us that even the darkest chapters of history can inspire something enduring and meaningful.”

The Monumental Awards highlight projects that elevate the quality and character of Central Indiana through creativity, design, and community impact. IDO’s recognition underscores its ongoing efforts to weave storytelling, public art, and preservation into the fabric of Irvington’s identity.

Looking ahead, IDO is focusing on its next major initiative—the Helene Hibben Art Park, planned for the corner of Washington Street and Ritter Avenue. The organization recently received Cultural District funding, with matching funds provided by the Historic Irvington Community Council.

In addition, IDO was awarded a grant from the Indiana Association of Realtors to support early planning and community engagement for the Art Park. This funding has helped lay the groundwork for design concepts, stakeholder collaboration, and the long-term vision of the space as a public art destination and community gathering point.

“We’re excited to use this funding to build momentum and strengthen collaboration with other Irvington organizations,” Rawlinson said. “When neighbors, artists, and local leaders work together, we’re not just improving the look of our streets—we’re deepening the spirit of the community. This is what grassroots revitalization looks like—local people investing their creativity, time, and care into the place they call home.”

The recognition also underscores Irvington’s growing presence among regional innovators. “We were up against engineering firms and entire communities from across Central Indiana,” Rawlinson added. “To be named among the top projects is a powerful reminder that creativity and collaboration can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with large-scale development.”
